9 Reasons to Exercise (That has nothing to do with results)

Your Body Loves You, Unconditionally

Our bodies work endlessly to keep us happy, healthy and at peace. Yet, many of us feel disconnected from our bodies – holding grudges due to appearance, health issues or cultural beliefs that antagonise the sensual world. If you choose to internalise anything from this post, I want it to be this: Your body loves you, no matter what.

Remember that your body isn’t betraying you in discomfort or insecurity. It’s not out to piss you off or make you suffer. There’s no need to force positivity or love for your body – sometimes, you feel like shit, and you want to feel like shit. And that’s completely natural – but I suggest kindness for yourself even in the lows. You don’t have to love your body but know that it loves you unconditionally.

Exercise Doesn’t Have to Be Punishment
It can be pleasurable to have a body, and playing with its limitations can be an enjoyable experience.

Too often, we see exercise as something to dread—a way to punish our bodies or reach arbitrary goals. But what if exercise became something else entirely? Something rooted in pleasure and joy? You are the only one who decides how to move your body, so drop the idea that there’s a “right” way to exercise.

For me, it took one book and a kickboxer’s description of strength and endurance to flip the switch. Suddenly, I saw movement as a way to feel powerful. I was a rogue warrior, an Amazonian goddess, all because I found a narrative that clicked with me.

Romanticize Your Workouts
To make exercise enjoyable, you need to find your own story. Perhaps it’s the sense of freedom from a long walk, the quiet pride after weightlifting, or the emotional release from dancing. Exercise doesn’t have to be traditional or monotonous. It could be playful, like dancing in your room or using an app that turns running into a zombie escape adventure.

Let go of what others say exercise should look like and instead, create a self-concept that makes you feel strong, confident, and free. Children exercise through play—why shouldn’t we?

Exercise Benefits You May Not Know

  • Euphoria: Endorphins and dopamine surge after prolonged movement, making you feel euphoric and confident.
  • Increased Energy: Contrary to belief, exercise often boosts your energy, improving mental clarity and mood.
  • Confidence: Certain workouts can build trust, whether it’s through brutal boxing, sexy dancing, or exploring new places.
  • Self-Trust: The more you test your body’s limits, the more you trust it. Imagine not worrying about physical limits or what your body can handle.
  • Healthy Aggression: Releasing emotions through movement, like boxing when angry or dancing when excited, makes you feel alive.
  • Addiction: Eventually, you’ll crave the feeling exercise gives you. It becomes a natural part of your day, something that energizes you rather than drains you.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Your body loves you. It works every day to keep you happy and safe. Remember this next time you feel disconnected. And when it comes to exercise, find your own joy.
